Where the wild things are
Lens: Asahi Pentax-M 50/1.7 Camera: K-30 Photo Location: S. Charleston, WV
Posted By: TonyTurley, 12-21-2013, 06:35 PM

I took my new K-30 on its first hike this morning, about 6 miles through a local wilderness area. Asahi Pentax-M 50/1.7, but a wide variety of settings based on what I wanted in the photo. These I did run through RawTherapee, mostly with the default settings.

Huge temperature difference in the forest: 70 on the hilltops, 40 down in the canyon bottom. I passed through a few localized pockets of air in the woods that felt like it was 80 or better. Some first day of winter.

PS: the sky looks blown out in the next to last pic, but the only thing to be seen in the sky was a bright, diffuse haze, Not exactly the best conditions for photos.

It looks like you have a wonderful place to return to again and again for taking photos. TFS these. I enjoyed the views of your wild things.

You get the same kinds of pictures we get, only we hardly ever see deer. Thanks for posting.

What a beautiful, misty place! The second one is my favorite here. That backlighting is just perfect.

Thanks folks. I see a lot of deer, and most of the time they spook as soon as they see me. However, from time to time I'll come upon deer that don't seem the least bit concerned I'm there. Those have always been in areas where hunting is not permitted, like yesterday. I guess they get used to human presence.

Looks like a rich, diverse and scenic location - so typical of "Wild & Wonderful" West Virginia! Will look forward to seeing more photos of your local wild places...
