These are some good images. How many eyes does that green bug have and what is it. It almost looks like a grasshopper but I'm not sure.

Most interesting, Neville. Can you explain the cattle? Are they wild creatures? (and is one of them actually drinking salt water?!) What part of the coast were you visiting?

To be honest, I have no idea what that green bug is either. It was the only one that we saw as we walked along the beach. The wings looked very much like green leaves.

The pictures were taken on the Transkei coast, which is part of the eastern coast of South Africa. It is a very rural area, with most of the locals surviving on subsistence farming. The cattle are not wild, but belong to the locals and they roam fairly freely. Apparently the cattle come down to the beach for the salt (nature's salt lick) and, yes, they do drink the salt water.

Ah, thanks. I had not thought about salt licks -- that makes sense. Even the cattle get a day at the beach!

I was just curious. I like that green color of the bug.

The bug looks like some kind of cricket. It does not have the heavy leg muscles of the jumping grasshoppers.

Interesting series of shots, I just had to look as I couldn't work out the title, as to how birds and beasts could break a boat.

Love the title alliteration! And the shots are amazing. Your post processing is exceptional... too many to comment on, but each is simply superb.
