Pigeon toe
Lens: 90 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: The park ISO: 100

Taking a break at the park. Was feeding some 8-year old (at least) dry potato soup mix (with a little water to hold it together) to the pigeons.

A couple birds had missing toes or injured feet. This was the worst one.

I see a lot of birds -- mostly grackles and pigeons -- with injured feet. I've always wondered why. TFS

Nice shot of the pigeon on your foot. I used to raise chickens and they were often hatched with knurled toes. This looks like it might be a genetic knurl.

Could be natural predators, or...

Possibly. However, I think I see some fishing line wrapped around its ankle.

Fishing line.... that is very sad. I just saw parts of a 24 hour marathon new years day show on wild animal rescues all around North America. They would help birds like this. It didn't matter if it was a Golden Eagle or a pigeon, or in one case a nest full of starlings, they would help them with the intent of setting them free one day. If they were too maimed to be able to survive on their own they would send them to a sanctuary to live out their natural lives. It is amazing how many people/organizations there are involved in this type of work.
