One Big Elk
Lens: DA* 60-250 Camera: K5 iis Photo Location: Banff, Alberta
Posted By: daacon, 01-07-2014, 07:09 AM

As we were almost at the end of Tunnel Mountain Road (heading back to the highway) we spotted this fella. One of the biggest Elk I have seen and certainly one of the biggest racks. Man I would love to see this guy in battle in the fall for mates. I suspect he has done well

Wow Dave, that is a big well fed animal and you got some real nice images of him. You are right about seeing him in the fall with another one his size.

Jer beat me to it, but that is one massive animal, best that photo is taken with a long lens I might suspect.

THanks Heinrich that's one of the biggest I have seen - certainly the biggest unbroken Rack for sure.

Thanks Tess as you know it's always a treat to see wildlife in their natural habitat

Thanks Bob the DA* 60-250 , I probably got a little closer than I should have but it's a national park and by in large they realize humans are just an annoyance

Thanks Den - not a hunter at all - don't see the point.

Now that's what I call a rack Dave. Similar to the one I photographed in Jasper this year. Nicely done. Jim

Wow!! Glad this one wasn't in rut. Great shots, Dave. BTW, did you run into many Saskatchewan plates up there? I would think that the cold weather has been sending a few stubble jumpers out west.

Thnaks Jack had he been in a rut I would had a different shooting strategy (like from my car window!). Did not really notice many Sask plates , but in the early morning the stream of traffic on Highway 1 was a steady flow to the ski hills.

A striking subject, buddy. Nice job - should I face a dilemma, I know where to find the horns.
