Wow. This is a very interesting image. I like how it is almost monochrome. How did you find a scene like this?

Thanks, photographyguy74! And I'm afraid the "find" isn't all that interesting - my husband had found it when we were exploring the neighborhood during the ice storm last month. I just kept my eye on it until the light was right.

An amazing image--a harbinger of "A Scenic World" going back live, I hope? I'm a newbie still deciding if he's a naturalist or an aesthete, but your turtorials have been the most useful I've found to date.

Looks like a very old baseball. It took me a while to figure it out. Love this image, in part due to its mystery. Thanks.

Yep, you're right! It's so old that only a tiny piece of leather remains. All the fibers you see are the innards of the ball. I'd definitely never seen a baseball in this condition, but as a fan of cross-sections, I had to take a shot!

Ahhhh, yes, A Scenic World has definitely been begging for attention lately. I've definitely given it some thought, and I'm open to suggestions for post ideas! And I'm so glad you've found it useful!

Excellent, I was just reading your post on the "Dragan method" (which, ironically, I could almost believe you applied to the processing of this image.) At any rate, I've kicked around long enough in other genres to know it's a rare thing to get lucid pedagogy with first-rate artistic production--I'll keep my fingers crossed your blog will be reprised in the new year.

My first impression was that it was a skull of some sorts (we are not big at baseball over here) but then I identified what it was. Cool image, nice toning! Almost disturbing in a pleasant way (if that makes any sense...).
