Beautiful shot. Mallards?
Do these winter over in Ontario? I always (naively) assumed waterfowl migrated south.
Thanks for sharing.

They should head south but are well fed so they stick around even during the cold snaps. It's fine by me as they have become quite a fun group to shoot.

Nice photo.

In colder parts of Canada, such as Northern Ontario and Manitoba....sometimes ducks stay longer than they should and eventually freeze or become food for predators. Where I live, eventually pretty well all the bodies of water freeze solid. In the past three years at a local river, I've seen some tardy wildfowl ( a Mallard and a Canada Goose) overstay and eventually found them frozen solid, usually by early December. In these cases I wondered if they were injured and couldn't make the flight.

I think they were eventually eaten...probably by a fox, Coyote or Canada Lynx.

Thanks, folks. I should have realized. Even here in western Pennsylvania, we get some waterfowl wintering over. I didn't realize it also happened up thataways.
