My only critique would be the placing of the horizon. I realize that the rock on the right - which for me is the focal point - limits how much sky you could crop out, but I think bringing the top margin down almost to the top of the rock with all the birds on it would improve the image.

I think the horizon line needs to be where it is--as it balances the foreground. From the front of the line of rocks (that extends to the center of the picture) up to the horizon is about the same weight (distance) as the sky,

The exposure seems very long--1 second at iso 80 and f/16. It seems relatively light--I would have thought more like 1/10 second? (No, on second thought the sun is low on the horizon--you said sunset didn't you!)

Great picture BTW.

Foreboding - almost a fantasy look. Super photo.

I have a B&W version that's even spookier. My biggest quandry, since most of my work/sales falls in the "art" side, is whether this image is marketable and whether someone would actually hang it on a wall. I took it in September and I've been arguing it's pros and cons for over 3 months now.

I actually posted it here to see what kind of response it would get, sort of a focus group if you will...lol

Thank you for the positive feedback.

Hi, nomadkng, I find your photo evocative, and like Sailor said, almost fantastical. And like you, I tend to shoot on the "art" side of photography. Regarding its marketability, it seems like the biggest problem with it is that it's not a standard size, so any potential buyer (or you!) would have to pay for custom framing. Also, and this is based purely on my own experience, while I prefer moody, dark shots, most buyers seem to want happy, bright stuff. For those who do like darker things, this shot might not be dark or dramatic enough.

Of course, there's always the artist's prerogative to put what you want out there! After all, it's your name and your reputation, and if you're proud of this piece (as you should be!), then by all means, offer it for sale!

A couple people suggested a little "darker" image might work better.

same scene, about 20 minutes later, so less light, longer shutter speed turned the waves to misty fog, and a different focal length.

any preference?

This is tough, but I'm going to have to go with the last one. It looks almost primordial.
