Blind Hog
Lens: Bigma 50-500 Camera: K5 Original Photo Location: Texas -Woods of Otis ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F8

In my 3 1/2 months of being laid up with a broken foot and confined to shooting out my office windows, I have been on a quest to get the perfect Cardinal shot. Being red, and different shades of red, they are always difficult...reds blow out so quickly. I have experimented with every setting on my K5, tweaking everything I can, trying this and that over and over.....

I still haven't captured the perfect shot, but I am a lot better than I was a few months ago. I did finally figure it all out...

Regards!

My latest in the quest for the perfect Cardinal. ( A blind hog would have got all of his tail in the shot!)

It looks like you've mastered the technique to me, Rupert. This is a great shot, even with the truncated tail. Every time I try to photograph a bird, it takes to the air and flies over dropping a calling card (especially if I've just washed the car).

I like it: sharp, beautiful color, and nice "courageous" posture of the little guy.

Thanks guys! It is about as good a Cardinal shot as I will ever get...and the colors are near perfect, something that I find so difficult with reds. Mostly..... I did like his pose, he was truly showing his majestic self confidence to the females!
Now if I can ever get a decent Chickadee shot, I might be happy ....for a while!
Regards!

BTW Jer-
, I sure would like to see you get a Bigma. With the K3 you could have a ton of fun!

Very nice rupert, but ya, what's with that tail thing? I hate it when I do that. People say they want a bigger viewfinder, I can't even adequately scan the one I've got.
