Saturday Walk
Lens: DA 18-135, Sigma 8-16 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada

Leaving town for the park, the gas station with restaurant and the Mad Mucher Restaurant both had their parking lots full with snow mobiles.

At the car park, dog sledders are waiting to take some people out for some overnight winter camping.

Heading out on the trail.

The Big Pine

A spruce bog..

Stopping in to see the Jays...

That's the bird feeding place, where all the photographers hang out. There were a couple guys with Canons with 70-200 2.8s and 2x converters, there while we were there. There's always somebody there.

Thanks for commenting... it's odd, you'd think those Gray Jay claws would hurt looking at them, but they're very gentle... of course, they are getting free old cheddar cheese.

Yes, we have all the equipment to take it on, including a hot tent, but haven't managed to actually convince ourselves to go out yet. These guys actually haul their tents and other equipment out on Skidoos, to their campsite. The adventurers just bring day packs and travel with the dog team. So non-motoraized travel but motorized gear transport. Probably a healthy compromise for the modern adventurer.

Terrific shots, Norm. The first one reminds me so much of similar places in Michigan. I'm amazed that bird would alight on Tess' (?) hand - it's got guts or is just too cold to move?

This is a spot in the park that all the photographers come too, so these guys probably get hand outs 5 days a week. It's Tess's son's hand I think... the Gray Jays and chickadees here will land on any extended hand with cheese in it. You should come up and give it a try.

The birds that might go for cheese are the omnivores, Jays (which are I believe the same family as crows, they are both Corvids) , Nuthaches, Chickadees. Not every bird is attracted to it. But if you have birds in your area that are, they'll appreciate it. We usually only take it out for hand feeding. It's a little expensive to just put out for everyday feed. We have suet for that.
