1st shot with new lens
Posted By: J.Scott, 04-11-2008, 04:33 PM

I finally received my FA 50mm f1.4 yesterday and just had to give it a go today. I am a sucker for prime lenses and this one looks like a keeper. I'll take some better shots this weekend in spite of the promise of more crap-tabulous weather.

First is just a quick hand-held shot of a long leafy plant in the dining room. SR definitely worked superbly! 1/13th sec; f 1.4
Much to my delight the lens renders out of focus areas very smoothly; especially wide open.

I worked outside in a lousy snow/sleet storm and kept passing this market. The red apple on the sign was so inviting I took a picture then went in and bought one for a snack!
Just to give an idea of size, the green boards are 6" wide each. The blurry globs are, of course, falling snow.

That's late snow for April, isn't it? Regardless, it gives a nice aspect to the shot (not to mention my surname is Smith). 1/13th handheld; impressive SR, eh? Nice photos with your new tool, Jeff, have fun with it!

These are both appealing to me and in such a much different manner. It appears you are going to enjoy your new lens.

Both shots are quite different styles and this lens is used well to render two types of photography style.

A great lens and hope you enjoy it thoroughly

Thanks for the comments - I'll attempt to do some 'serious' photography this weekend. I like the lens as I can use it on both my film body and digi's. And the nice thing is that that it cost under $200 new, shipped to my door. I have a couple FA series lenses and although they are not the prettiest lens to look at they seem just fine to look through. Although it does kind of match up with the K10D and all its 'rubbery-ness'.

Looks like the lens is a keeper. That second shot is fantastic. You should print up some post cards and offer them for sale in their store. Good advertising for them, and exposure for you.
