Tonight's studio shots
Posted By: hamidlmt, 04-11-2008, 09:51 PM

This evening, I shot with Annika. She was so tall and I was up on a ladder the entire shoot! ha! We only shot for an hour and ended up with a few nice keepers.

All shots snapped with the K10D. Lit with mixed continuous light and gelled hot-shoe flashes. I just received a grid for my 3 foot Photoflex Octodome, so I used that quite a bit for the main light. I only used a light gray, seamless paper backdrop.

FA 50mm 1.4 @ 1/80 sec, f/4.5, iso200

FA 31mm 1.8 Limited @ 1/125 sec, f/4.5, iso320

#1 is superb - love how the shirt and shadows just fall off into the darkness, it's very dramatic.

I love the 2nd shot where there is an interesting lighting behind her. Almost like a vacuum that sucks in air. Really cool

Thanks! The lighting guys say to learn with one light... It does create a lot of drama.

The vacuum imagery is keen... I hadn't thought of it that way. I was having fun, trying to create some subtle gradients in the background with the single flash.

All three are excellent shots. I really like #2 but wonder if just a touch of light reflected on the right side (viewers left) might have been better. Just seems a tiny bit dark. Did you use a fan with her hair in #3?

Excellent series.

Number one is my least favourite and maybe could be "spiced" up with a B&W conversion. # 2 is quite nice but maybe a bit of fill on the shadow side would of helped. Really like #3, would like to see the same shot done with a few different coloured backgrounds as well.

Thanks

You're right about that second shot. I do like the drama it creates with a lot of shadow, but it could have used just a hint of fill.

I love the first shot. The drama it portrays is awesome.
