Terracotta Warriors
Lens: Various Camera: K5 II Photo Location: Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province

I thought I'd show some photos from a recent trip to see the Terracotta Warriors. I bought a 70-200 2.8 Sigma to take with me and it worked well. I also used a 10-20 F4 Sigma and a 17-50 2.8 Tamron. The guy signing the books was the farmer that "discovered" them, and they were all glazed/painted as orignally as per the photo of the one crouching. All shots hand held (wife wouldn't let me take a tri/mono pod!).

I knew there were a few of these guys, but not as many as shown in the first image, that's quite staggering, well done, many thanks for sharing.

Would you have been allowed to use them there with no restrictions had the "wife" allowed?

Amazing. I've read about these things, but that first shot reveals a scope I'd never appreciated! Great job photographing a wonderful subject.

Thankyou for your comments......this was the larger of a few "pits" that have been uncovered. Certainly worth the few days extra you need to add to a trip to China to see them. Of interest, they were originally covered by timber food that has decayed away.

You could have used a tripod in most spots. The front area when you enter can be reasonably crowed at times though (first shot) , but there is plenty of access from the sides etc.

This is surely one place I would like to see and photograph in person. Thanks for showing the photos.

They had a few of the soldiers on display at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

Just a small contingent.

Nice to see the whole army.

You are so lucky to have seen this irl and thank you for sharing. It amazes (and scares me) that each soldier has different facial traits :| These prove that Not everything Made in China is not built to last

Having been there and photographed it myself (albeit on a cheap point-and-shoot because it was before I ha a DSLR), I totally appreciate how difficult it can be to get crisp, clear, well-lit images there. VERY well done (especially for hand-held!), and I hope you enjoyed your trip!
