Part 2 from a recent trip to beautiful NZ (Part 1). Early summer so there were lots of chicks on the beaches.

At Milford Sound I got to watch this family of Variable Oystercatchers for quite a while:




There were three chicks in all, both parents on hand to shepherd them about.

The Albatross Centre at Tairoa Head also had lots of nesting Red-billed Gulls, with chicks of all ages:










At Muriwai, a young Gannet stretches its wings:




While at Whatipu, a juvenile White-fronted Tern begs for a meal:




Also at Whatipu, a young Pukeko, just about full size but lacking the distinctive red bill of the adult:




An excellent trip for chick watching!

wonderful variety of "chick" better than some I have seen at our beaches at times.
