What happened???
Posted By: Photo Tramp, 04-12-2008, 08:54 AM

Once again I have been playing in Photoshop. The first shot is the original the second is a bit more complicated. I started by taking the original making a duplicate layer. Then reducing the opacity to 67% to darken the background giving it a darker background. Than using Shadows and highlights changed from adjustments I changed the mid tones to +23 the Highlights to +62 and the shadows to 2 Finally I went to filters and selected Render Lens flair to 50mm brought the lens flair down to the very right hand bottom corner and setting the flair to 47%. I than took the picture into Picasa and tuned the image once again adding a bit more highlights and reducing the shadows just a little. going into saturation and setting the slide to neutral and then added sharpening.

original.

Final.

I'm all for being creative and trying new things. I just don't think, for me, this image makes it. The subject is getting lost in the final image. If it was a little bigger, more prominent, I think it would work better.

I love the images in your gallery.

Like the concept very much, but the subject, IMHO, needs to fill the frame a bit more to work. It gets a bit lost as Joe mentioned.
Also Im not sure the orange flare quite fits in properly..

Thanks

Phototramp,

I have noticed that most photo editing programs will produce bizarre resuts when certain tools or adjustments are pushed the normal + - corrections normally used, or when used in certain combinations. Sometimes it is not even possible to understand how they got to the extreme result. But if you have time to play around you can find some very cool tricks. Your photo has given me a great idea for a futurist space photo that I might attempt. Your photo strikes me as a solar system (bright sun in the lower right, with planets in the upper left) I love the spheres that you created from the bokeh because they look like planets. Most great inventions are discovered by accident.

All I can say is go for it. Photoshop allows the creative side to flow and some of the things I have seen done lately have been impressive.

I thank you all for the comments and really for all purposes the shot is an exercise, no more. It was a junk photo that I tried to make usable. since posting it here and in the Photo bucket gallery I have gotten about 30 requests to use the photo as a desktop shot.
like you guys I think the photo has a lot to be desired but the creativity is what is making me see there is more to do and a way to correct some other shots that might save them from deletion. It also gives me a better understanding of how the program works and just how creative you can get.
I'll keep playing, maybe I'll hit a good one soon.
