Baskins Creek
Posted By: mole, 01-31-2014, 06:53 PM

Was scheduled to lead a hike up to Rocky Top in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park last Tuesday. Trails were fine, but roads were not, so we had to change plans and use a series of trails that were closer to park entrances. This group of fine hikers walked about 14+ miles from Greenbrier to Sugarlands. As hike leader, I could not pause to take many photos, but did get a few samples, mostly at the lunch stop. It's an old homesite at the end of the Baskins Creek Trail.

Here are some of the old outbuildings nearby.

A little side path led to Baskins Falls - we went to see how frozen it was.

It was indeed frozen, and some amazing icicle "decorations" too!

Wish I could have shown you more of this rich and snowy landscape, but hope you enjoyed the glimpses. Thanks for any comments and critique!

It will no doubt have cable or satellite TV and wifi available and a socket somewhere to charge the cell phone.

Tony - I am indeed blessed to live where there are many great trail opportunities. Where was your 12 mile hike?
We have a couple of local parks with loads of trails and some nice scenery, but no major waterfalls. One is about 15 minutes from my house, one about 30. The one that is 30 minutes away is 9,000 acres, so even a 10 mile hike is like a drop in a bucket there.
