Erskine Falls
Lens: 18-55 WR Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Lorne Vic
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 01-31-2014, 11:27 PM

Two shots of he Erskine Falls in the Otway Ranges near Lorne Victoria. One of my favourite waterfalls, indeed a favourite with the visitors to the region.
Probably not the best time to photograph the fall with challenging light conditions ranging from patches of bright sunlight to deep shadows.

Nice shots Bruce. Looks like a shady cool place to be on a very hot day.
I notice you were using the much maligned kit lens and the oh so poorly sensored K-7

A very good example of what this modest piece of glass can do and a good advertisement for the K-7. Beautiful rich colours, I really like the mauve tinted blues in the 2nd shot.

I still think some of my best shots came from this camera.

What a great waterfall. And, well captured, too. Cloudy overcast would have provided better lighting but you just have to go with what nature provides.

Yes this a beautiful part of the world. I now have an excuse to go back again and do it properly.

Yes not too bad getting down but hot work getting back up. Oh yes the "poor old kit lens" and "K-7" One day I will upgrade to a Pentax 15mm Limited and perhaps a K-3, but till then I will learn to extract the best I can from what I have. Really it is not bad gear.

It was quiet apart from the humans frolicking in the shallows. (holiday weekend). ND 8 filter and polarizing filter helped to tame SS

Thank you as stated ND8 filter helped enormously. I have not used it a lot and am just beginning to understand the versatility that can be gained.

Thanks, I am pretty happy with that one. My previous attempts at this location were many years ago using Ricoh XR-P and Fuji slide film. Very hard to dampen the highlights.

Those falls are beautiful. Good job under challenging conditions. How tall are they? Looks like quite a drop.

2 good shots. The 2nd is a better technical image but I like the uniqueness of the 1st one. It's more of an abstract image because of the difficult lighting and less-sharp focus.
