Good thing these guys are slow!

This time of year last year's crop of beavers disperse from their dens to start their own colonies.

I came across this kit, yesterday evening, who was at first co-operative, but then, when he realized I was between him and the water, he came after me on the run. Fortunately beavers aren't the fastest runners. I can't imagine the damage their teeth would do. Nice claws, too, huh?

The first time I've heard a beaver growl.

Great shots again Tom - wow those claws are indeed ficious - I would imagine they are pretty fierce if they ever get cornered. Love the first one - looks like you taught him how to 'sit pretty'

That guy looks pretty mean Tom I certainly wouldn't expect something like that. Last year a boy got attacked by one across the river from me and it turned out to be rabid- something else to worry about

Ugly?

Ugly?

That's the Canadian national animal you're calling ugly!

Yeah, I guess he is a little on the ugly side...

Great shots Tom! Kinda makes you wonder though where our forefathers came up their national symbols, Like the bald eagle for the US. Regal looking bird until you see him perched on a carcass like any other scavanger.

Who you callin' ugly? Them's fightin' words mister! I'll have you know the beaver is a noble critter that helped, in no small way, to actually make Canada a country. So noble in fact it adorns our 5 cent coin. I have never been attacked by a beaver but one gave me a surly glare once while canoing near its damn. They take their work very seriously! Ugly indeed! What, pray tell, is the national animal of your fair country? (I won't make fun of it - honest!)

Tom, you are lucky to have lived to tell the tale of your near-death encounter with a large Canadian rodent! Imagine him gnashing at your ankles with those claws and teeth!

Beavers beavers beavers! Sharing sharing sharing!

Oops, wrong kind of beavers!

Nice beaver pics there! I'm guessing you were pretty quiet as beavers around here don't stick around long enough to have their pic taken...

That's one angry looking dude! I never knew they'd be that aggresive... most rodents turn tail and run. Groundhogs you have to sneak up on up-wind and very very slowly as as to not cause vibrations... yet they can forage right near a highway and not care.

Great shots.

Tom,

Nice series. I really like the second image as it reminds me of a Carl Brenders painting. You probably know of him so you will know it is a compliment

By the way, a beavers teeth are only a problem if you have a wooden leg.
