The first public demonstration since 1851..
Lens: TAMRON SP AF 28-75mm F2.8 XR Di Camera: PENTAX K-5 Photo Location: Pantheon in Paris ISO: 3200 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F4

"Academicians of Florence had observed in 1660 moving the plane of oscillation of the pendulum. But they did not know the cause of this movement. The French physicist thought, on the contrary, it was to take place as a result of movement of the Earth .. "
- Handwritten note

On public display since 1851, the pendulum is hanging from the roof of the Pantheon in Paris. The interest of the pendulum, designed by physicist Léon Foucault, is that it highlights the rotation of the Earth by an easily reproducible local experience.

Was it really the first time since 1851? Did they have a fake one in place of this one until now?

The demonstration lasts from 1851 to the present. Is it correct to write in English, rrstuff?

Ah... I see what you are saying. Well I am not a native speaker - I came after high school and I did my Sc.B. and Ph.D. in US - so I might be wrong. Keeping that in mind, I would say 'On display since 1851' or 'first presented in 1851'.

Beautiful shot! That is a very cool location. I stopped there while in Paris, and could have spent hours taking photos if my family didn't drag me out of there and on to the next stop!

Great photo - B&W is perfect for this composition. Let's tip our hats to Dr. Foucault .

I was with my family at that moment too and was a little nervous, because was pulled in different places.
as the one poet wrote (wrote not about a pendulum):
"as though life will shake to the right, having shaken to the left"
i love them all))

He realized that under him the Earth rotates with a tangential speed about 740 mph
he has no hurry, now )
