Steam Locomotive 4960
Photo Location: Williams AZ
Posted By: Bob Harris, 02-07-2014, 10:50 AM

Built in 1923 by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia is now in operation in Williams AZ and is used to pull tourist passenger cars to the Grand Canyon. The restoration brought it back to almost new condition, the photos are of the running gear and engine while operating.

Beautiful series, Bob. Great presentation of this of conqueror of the West. The BW choice is excellent, and contrast is perfect.

I still remember the sound and smell of those steam locomotives. Wonderful machines, and wonderful photos. I love them.

I think when we see these old trains Stefan, our mind automatically goes bw, I think it is the only way to present them.

As do we Susan, if in Durango this year make sure and ride the train, we'll be up there and will make sure that we ride this year.

Hey buddy, that is from my era the 40/50's and I'm still running also, but not always in full gear.

You're just like us, when we get a chance we ride them. Love the smell and sounds as you say and of course the bellowing smoke.

This one in Williams only runs once a year to the Grand Canyon and we lucked out and were in the area and rode it. I think I spent more time before and after the ride just walking around and taking photos.

All are handheld, there were over a hundred people there for awhile, but when the train started to warm up, everyone got on the train to travel up to the Grand Canyon, so I got off the train and took the photos. Funny thing is I almost missed the ride, had to run to my car just a minute before it left.
