A walk with my new lens
Lens: 55-300 WR Camera: K-30 Photo Location: WV Aperture: F8

A few from my first hike with the 55-300 WR. As I said in another thread, this is my first ever automatic Pentax lens; all the others are K- or -M manual lenses. The IQ on this new lens is pretty good.

The first two photos are from a meandering ravine that tumbles steeply down a hillside through a series of waterfalls to a wetland area far below. The trail I was on went right between the two waterfalls. What you can't tell from the second photo is that right over that rock ledge is a drop of about 20 feet. I'd really like to check out the series of waterfalls from below (the ravine is awesome when water is flowing), but the hill is far too steep to climb down safely, and access from the bottom is restricted due to the protected wetland that is on controlled-access property.

No great bird shots to share; I missed on the only Pileated Woodpecker I saw. I'll keep trying. I also wish we'd had some blue sky - the pic with the barn could have been special.

Great shots - I like the two last ones the best. The other ones are mostly a game of 'spot the bird' or 'haha there isn't even one'

You will love the lens Tony. I really like the second to last shot. It is beautiful in its simplicity.

Thanks everyone. The last two are my favorites, as well. Susan, I like to go for really simple shots when I can. They often tell a far better story than ones that are busier.
