Personality
Posted By: scratchpaddy, 02-09-2014, 11:38 PM

There's a look I go for that's more than just a picture of a dog. I try to show their personalities, too. When I look back on a picture of a dog, I want to recognize them not by their colors and proportion, but by how they're acting, and what they're saying.

Lapawz ("Paws" for short) is full of nervous energy. She's especially nervous around human guys, and it took her a while before she'd let me pet her.

Jake... well, he's a pug. Need I say more?

Skippy wants whatever that is you have there. Yeah, she'll take that.

I've been trying to capture the personality of Nalya the wolf-dog for a while, but I could never quite get it right. Yesterday morning, I finally managed to get one that seemed to properly show her intelligence and dignity.

Kayla's in her twilight years. She's always calm, content to just watch as everything passes by.

Those photos are fantastic. And hey, who said you can't shoot fast moving action with Pentax? What's harder to catch in focus than a dog going nuts in a doggie park?

Thanks! The K-5 IIs is plenty fast for me. I don't use autofocus, either. It just messes me up.

cool. that makes the two of us . I haven't tried taking shots of dogs at this distance though. Usually it is for farther objects, which is a bit easier.
Did you use zone focusing for these?

Are the ones with CA from helios and the other ones from sigma 30? The last one also looks like it could be from helios.

Only the last picture was taken with the Helios. For action shots, I preset the focus (usually at the 1.3m mark on the 30mm) and use burst mode while moving towards the dogs, or while they're moving towards me. It's like cheating.
