Nice shot, although seems a little washed out color wise, although the daylight conditions didn't help. I also have to wonder about the choice of ISO, shutter speed and aperture - it seems like you pushed too much for the latter two and might have benefited a little from dropping the ISO instead?

Withe the Rokinon monster lens, I only have a fixed aperture, and i was shooting from inside a running car, so I wanted a high shutter speed to minimize shake blur, sigh, that left me with the ISO setting. alas. i agree, but alas. sad.
If I had shot in RAW, perhaps I could have fixed it better.

Now that I have a clue about how to deal with RAW, I am shooting in RAW+, hopefully that will let me save more better.

That explains the odd combination. I've also seen many ads for 500mm mirror lenses which are fixed at f8, but I wasn't aware of this lens at all, or any that were fixed at f16. Given the conditions, this is a good shot indeed.

Now I know where I've seen this eagle (or pose) before - it is Sam the Eagle from the muppets, or maybe his offspring

Beautiful bird. That is a look that his prey don't want to see. Really scary eyes.

Did you shoot raw? Because you could reduce the purple fringing very well in post, and even add some contrast. Modern raw converters have amazing lens correction built right in. Because the bird is interesting and it seems the focus is right

I did not shoot RAW. I tried RAW on my *istDL, but soon gave up as I had no idea how to manipulate the data to get an image better than camera jpeg.
After some discussion on these forums and some experimenting I now have a much better idea of how to use the RAW conversion to get a better image. My Kx is now set to RAW+, and my K-30 will be set to RAW+ once I get it.

Before I posted this image, I re opened in GIMP and reduced the fringe considerably, perhaps I should do some practice on getting rid of more of it.

Thank you for your comments!! I appreciate all critique!

Oh btw, a photo like that could even work in black and white. The bird would still look just as impressive, since the photo doesn't rely on colour/tones as much as it does on subject and textures

the lens Rokinon 650-1300 appears chromatic aberration on crop, which can be reduced with the PP.
i think.
