Kerrowdown asked a similar question in my first "Jordanians" set. This was my answer: Thank you, Kd! I had only a woman show me the finger... She was illegally selling cigarettes on the street. Most people didn't know I was taking pics of them. I've developed a certain technique... I have a bag attached to my belt, which I keep in front of my belly. On the bag I keep my camera (like an old Rollei) set at 33-35mm, f5.6, and adequate ISO. I also set the focusing distance and try to respect it when getting near a target. Then, click!--sometimes I even look somewhere else It takes some practice to get good shots, but the technique is working, and I'm getting better at using it. However, Jordanian are nice people... I don't think anyone would have been aggressive if they discovered I was taking pics of them.
Now, regarding the covered woman: Jordan is pretty liberal compared to most other Muslim countries; generally, women can choose what to wear. So, the veil is to a significant extent a matter of choice. Which is not to say that choice is freedom, since people may have freedom of choice without being free from prejudice, irrational fears and motives, etc. On the other hand, I doubt the West has some kind of superiority over the Middle East when it comes to prejudice and related phenomena
Note that the sort of burqa the woman in pic #7 wears is fashionable--in any case, very different from the personality-effacing, black burqa of the Saudi women. The woman in pic #11 appears to be a conservative matron, and she has a rather independent attitude. I saw Saudi women in Kuwait, Dubai and at Petra, in Jordan: always following their husbands, docilely.
Here's an interesting poll that's going to tell you something about the variety of perceptions in the Arab countries. I think Jordan is similar to Lebanon.

Thank you, Kerrowdown. Not sure I got busted, although my K-30 has a pretty noisy shutter. What's sure is she was looking at the camera--perhaps wondering, "A Pentax? What's this?"

Thank you for commenting--as to your wondering, I'm going to refer you to the lines above, in which I shared my little dirty secret.
