I never realised that salt was such perfect little cubes, I use sea salt which is nothing like this.

that looks like a pretty extreme macro! Gives me an idea to look at some salts under microscope.

The picture and your comment make me remember some of the chemistry I learned long ago. Every compound has its distinctive crystal shape, in which the crystals naturally grow. Of course, they can be broken mechanically - and the picture shows some evidence of some grains being abraded to rounded corners.

Bob, ya' got great taste . Back in my first science course in junior high, I remember be fascinated by the fact that the neutralization reaction of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) with sodium hydroxide (caustic), both of which are bad news for human tissue, yields NaCl which we add to food to give it some zest.
