Glowing ring
Lens: 16-45mm Camera: K-30

Trying out some moderate macros and playing with lighting. In this case, there is a back illumination from a single desk lamp. I taped a piece of paper over it to soften the light. The light was leaking on the sides, so you could see a lit center, and both borders.

I think your backlight has done a very nice job with the specular(may not be the proper terminology) highlights on the glass but has left the water alone, the blue tone is nice and the wood texture in the back.

Thanks. Yes, I think lack of the reflection on the right was because it was a relatively small light source - so glass on the right was not really back-lit. I am still trying to figure out studio work. For one thing I don't have a studio so it's a bit challenging. I was going for a bit stronger glow from the liquid, but I like this effect too.

The colours and the aspect/crop really makes it look like a screengrab from a cinema movie. Well done

As everyone has already said, a perfect fine job. All your experimenting sure paid off on this one.

This is extremely effective.
