Yellow or Pink?
Posted By: Gareth, 02-16-2014, 02:18 PM

Hmm, I like both but for the PPG I don't want to enter both!

Pentax K5 & Sigma 105mm. Off camera flash via TTL lead.

Yellow for sure! A dark, velvety red might be nice, too... Like, REAL dark... make it a little more moody.

Oh.. I don't know either! I like the contrast more in the first, but I like the background colour more in the second.. they're both really good shots.. I think I'll vote for the first but am not sure.

This is my problem!

Opening yellow is great as contasts so nice, great shadow detail and the colour compliment each other but then the pink shot, I like the way the pink flower is the same as the pink backdrop, nearly identical hue so the green just jumps out and hits you in the face! It's just 2 colours as well working against each other.

ARGH !!

How about selectively changing the colours in PP, to get exactly what you want into terms of colour combos.

Yeah, I think yellow sets a nice contrast and really makes the flower pop

Something about the second one makes me think it is sharper. I don't know why that is but there it is. I like the different shades of pinkish red and, surprise, it makes the flower stand out even though there is not much difference in the color.

Nice shot, I'd try a light blue as that compliments Pink.

My problem with the images is that I don't like the shadow. (Don't flame me for voicing my tastes )
So while the yellow provides better contrast for the flower, the pink hides the shadow more. I offer this comment up because it may be why you are struggling between the two backgrounds.

Well yeah, I agree - but you could easily post process the shots out, I would think?

Tough call but I will vote for pink solely on the grounds that you have essentially two colours rather than three. I feel the yellow is competing with both the flower and the leaves while the pink is matching the flower but contrasting with the green. Also as others have pointed out, the shadow is less of a distraction. Either on its own would be perfectly acceptable in PPG I think.

Yellow. The pink doesn't pop like the yellow one does.
