After you catch a fish
Lens: DA*300mm Camera: K-5

................what are you going to do with it?

Some kept their catch. Some had to figure out how to turn it around. Some had to get it off their beak. Some actually were rewarded with a meal.

Thanks, Susan - very nice series. I've seen our great blue herons throw them up to catch them head down. I imagine it takes a bit of practice to learn just how to flip them.

A nice series. I have observed herons catching fish, frogs, and turtles. It's difficult to capture and takes patience to get the shot. Good job!

Thanks guys. I am lucky in that I have a good spot that provides a fairly close view of these guys fishing.

Don't drop like in the other posting.

The one in the third image has got it wrong, the others all know that silver fish taste better.

I have no idea what kind of fish that one is in the third shot but, blown up, it has lots of pretty colors so maybe the other guys have it wrong?

Beautiful photos - I love all of them but especially love #2, #3 and #4 (wait that's most of them ). Really great work, you've captured everything well and those are SHARP.

Yeah, the focus is spot on, nice rich colours, and you really got nice closeups of the action. Good stuff all around

A great series, illustrating your skill & patience, and some very interesting bird behavior as well...

Wow. The last looks as if this bird has mastered the art even if the others seem to be struggling a little.
