the Mojave Desert
Posted By: Bob Harris, 02-21-2014, 08:23 PM

We visited Joshua Tree NP and took a long drive into the desert to get a remote photo of the desert that I grew up in. I added the heavy border to help frame the mountains, yes we do have them in the desert, and converted to b&w to give it that old west feel.

A different scenery than we here are used to seeing. Well executed shots.
thanks EM, doesn't the first one remind you of those small b/w TV's we had when we were young and watching those Western cowboy shows, it's probably just my mind going back in time?

Welcome. Maybe, with a little luck and time (and decent weather) I can reciprocate with some shots from this corner of the world.

Looks wonderful, I like the treatment on the first.
With the little rain we've had it probably looks desert dry
I recall a few years back we had so much rain that there were blooms showing up in the Mojave that hadn't been seen in a hundred years.

You're right Larry, we were up at Cottonwood Cove, Searchlight and all the dry desert areas and all of the Joshua were in full bloom. Many of the trees hardly look alive but they give a beautiful blossom.

Well, I'm in the extreme other part of the state, but hope to visit some of the interesting bits this spring. Well within driving distance of two national parks (Biscayne and Everglades), just need the right weather and no-work schedule. Film at 11!

Any moment now I'm expecting to hear: "A fiery horse with a speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty 'Hi-Yo, Silver!'.
