it's landscape time again...
Posted By: Marc Langille, 01-22-2007, 07:57 PM

Hey Everyone,

I've been lurking mostly as of late, and posting just a bit during that time.

I've not picked up my camera since Jan. 2nd to do any serious shooting for several reasons: the weather/darkness, and prepping for exhibits of my work is taking up lots of time!

However, I decided to go back and review my progress in 2006, and I think my most significant day was October 28th, 2006. That was my first serious attempt at landscape photography. I took maybe 15 shots the day before as a "warm up", and anything before that, well... they just plain sucked...

Below are just some of the highlights of that day. I hope you enjoy them!

Cheers,
Marc

Most excellent photos. It is hard to go wrong with such clean reflections.
Yes, the atmospheric gods were smiling upon me that day. It was perfectly calm for a little over an hour that morning. That inverted sky on the water messes people up - they try to turn the photograph around...

I shot for nearly 3 hours straight - I filled up both 2GB cards I had with me (shooting in RAW).

Cheers,
Marc

Andrew, Ed, Rolly...

It's worthwhile considering the final size and presentation at the outset if at all possible.

I agree that images like these are best viewed very large and from a longer distance.

They would probably project beautifully too.

Evidence here of a natural talent.
Thanks for the kind comments! Spent a lot of time looking at landscape shots and reading articles online and I've several books on the subject too.

I was REALLY nervous about failing, considering my previous attempts had failed - that is no lie!

Whether or not this is a good trait, I am my own worst critique, believe me. I set a very high standard on the photos I deem good enough to post online. I hope that doesn't create an "Achilles Heel" for me in the future....

BTW, the photos look very nice at 20x30, even from one foot/meter away.

Cheers,
Marc

I do consider myself fortunate

You should be so lucky to get this many great images in one outing. Of course talent has something to do with it All are excellent but #4 is the eye catcher for me.
Thank you for the kind comments!

What's interesting about #4: that's a cropped shot - I've removed the top and bottom of the pic.

Here's a link to the original:

thanks everyone for the kind comments

I am glad you enjoyed them...

Ken: I cannot share that information with you, since my local camera store owns the Epson 9800 series printer...

Would you like me to ask the print tech? He and nearly everyone in the store are on a first name basis with me.

Let me know.

Cheers,
Marc

Hi Marc,
You do have some gorgeous images here, if this is your first attempt at landscape you have a natural talent. Thanks for sharing them.

Just one thing that disturbs my eye - the frame, or, more exactly the very large "advertising" logo below the image. It seems to draw the eye away. Methinks a small signature would suffice.
But it really is a quite compelling image.

NaCl( is that salty, saltwater or briney?)H2O I love these cryptos of yours. Far too original (and occasionally profound) to 'hijack' Keep 'em acomin'!

Very spectacular. Beginner's luck? I don't think so! I would love to see these larger.

I appreciate your nice comments.

However, I am lucky that I live in such a beautiful state - subjects are a little easier to find than in the big city...
