Party on the roof
Lens: F 135/DA*60-250/DA*300 Camera: K20D / K5 Photo Location: Western Australia ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/90s Aperture: F6.7

Last night the Possums reminded me it was track and field night on our roof at 2:00 am.
We have several Brush tail Possums that visit in the night to finish off the leftover bird seed
and we do put out fruit when their natural food supply gets a bit thin. I'm still working out the
best way to photograph them so as not to scare them off so expect to see more of them.

Those are cute, nice shots, our 'possums look like their meth head cousins, not attractive at all.

Looking at that first image, apart from beating them over the nose with you lens, how much close do you want to get?

Great pics. I agree, they are much more appealing to view than their North American counterparts.

I know I grew up in Florida, But your variety are Opossums not related in any way other than they are both marsupials.

Thanks Susan, That little one was the first we had born on our property after we moved in and we didn't know how unusual he was with the half white tail.
He or she is the only one we have seen out of the 14 or 15 we have had hear as babies.

Range is fine I don't like the stark lighting of the flash especially if you get them at particular angles their eyes light up and it is to hard to correct and still look natural.
At present keepers are about 20 - 1 the first image was using a flashlight with a diffuser I had attached to the camera.

A bit like a screaming child is okay if it is somebody else's and some distance away, as cute and cuddly as these photos are, I'm glad I don't have the opportunity to take them. That said, there are racoons in our area and the harsh winter is bringing them out as they look for food.

I can remember when we moved to Florida as a kid and the raccoons pulled over the garbage cans every time we had KFC and we didn't have a harsh winter.

They can be curious creatures and will dig into anything given the chance - or maybe knock it over just to be mischievous. When we lived in Maryland, we had either racoons or squirrels that would chew through the lids of the garbage cans in order to get to the food. That definitely caught us off guard.
