Wasp
Lens: Pentax 50mm f4 Macro Camera: K10 Photo Location: Mitchell Co. Ga.

Sunny, warm day today. Found this wasp resting on some hedge. He was moving really slow, and just sit there for a while giving me time to get a few shots.

Those mandibles look like they could hurt.....

You went a lot closer to a wasp than I would. Nice shooting.

You've got to be extremely close since you are using a 50. Well done that you didn't scare him away. Did you really not use a flash for these?

No but then again Paper Wasps only become aggressive if you disturb their nests.

Back home they would attack you for just coming near their nest...

That would be because the EXIF data also claims the aperture was F1.0!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes, I used a flash, an old manual Vivitar ring flash. And the aperture doesn't show up because it's a manual lens, I think I had it set to F11. I used tubes with the 50, working distance was about 5 inches. They don't usually let me get that close, but this one was very lethargic, don't know why.

I get that all the time, so it doesn't indicate to me that the rest of the EXIF data is faulty.

Wow -that is really close. This one must have been asleep on the job. Thanks for the additional info on how the shot was done. Getting a ring flash, or rigging up something to emulate one is something I've been thinking about.
