I still mess up
Posted By: little laker, 04-17-2008, 12:29 AM

A couple of weeks ago while doing a shoot in a gym I often had the flash reflecting off the mirror

It occasionally turned into a nice effect.

Plus I had processed all these pic's on my laptop, only to find out that the look awful on my main computer, with a calibrated monitor. So I've spent most of the day correcting everything, hoping that I can get them sent out tomorrow
I wish that I could calibrate my laptops screen

I am wondering if a diffuser or something off cam away from the mirror might help?

That is a noodle scratcher..... the only other thing I could think of is constant light with a softbox ????

As for calibration. I just bought a Huey Pro to calibrate my setup. I did my laptop and my desktop with it and I think it turned out okay.

Might be something to look into.

Thanks Dave,
I don't mind if mistakes like that star effect happens.
The processing mistake on the other hand, is something that I don't want to do again.

Thanks Kim,
I can adjust the brightness, however HP (compaq) never stuck in any contrast controls.
Plus any difference in lighting really seems to effect the picture, making it tough to keep right anyways.

Thanks D,
I had my flash set up remote for a short while. However I had to move around the gym constantly, plus although I was given special permission to be there the regular customers still came first.
So I had to keep everything out of their way.

I only had about 4 shots not turn out due to the flash, out of 145, so that really isn't bad odds.
For that mater I only had around 10 pic's not turn out at all, so it was a more processing than I'd usually have for a small shoot like that.

Edit, thanks for mentioning the Huey Pro software. I'll look into it.

I was planning on talking to a programmer friend of mine, and see if he could design an easy to use software that would let you use something you can find anywhere as a guide. Like a coke can for the red.
If it's possible I'd like to get something like that.
