Winter Garden Beauty
Lens: Rikenon XR 28mm f/2.8 (with inverter ring) Camera: K20D Photo Location: Atlanta ISO: 100 Aperture: F16

While waiting for spring to come, I took some macros around the dead-looking winter garden...

This is what those tiny henbit flowers that grow in the middle of the grass look like in 1.69:1 macro...

And this is what moss actually looks like really close. I had no idea its leaves looked like that, since the moss in my pots looks velvety smooth... this is uncropped by the way...

Thank you bluestringer and slowpez

Those were taken with the onboard flash. The focus distance is so close that even the tilted down AF280T can't get light on the subjects... a trigger for my flashes is next on my purchase list

For those interested in Macro, it's amazing how much of a piece of dust in the front element shows up on the pictures... I should have cleaned the lens really really well before I took the pics, because even stuff that the eye couldn't see, showed up in the pic. I had to take a wall shot to make sure it wasn't the sensor!

I've got a couple of cheap ring flashes I use for macros of small flowers and insects. I find they work great. This tiny flower was shot with a 50mm macro lens on tubes using a old Vivitar macro 5000 ring flash that I picked up for 17 dollars. The bloom is about 4mm across.

I'll look for those older ring flashes. I thought they would be quite more expensive than that!
And that is a great picture you took there! Great light on it.
