Sunny Morning at Roan Mt
Lens: DA 21, FA 28, DA 70 Camera: K20D Photo Location: East Tennessee
Posted By: mole, 03-07-2014, 07:40 PM

Headed up to Roan Mountain recently to catch the sunrise and to enjoy a bright sunny morning in the high country. It was indeed a find mountain sunrise!

Bright morning light sure did light up the grassy balds in their subtle winter tints.

Roan is a great place to study geology, or just enjoy the diversity of rock formations.

And it's a great place to enjoy the varied views from Grassy Ridge.

Any day at Roan Mountain is a good day, but this was one of the rare clear bright ones too. Hope you enjoyed the trip, and will share your comments & critique!

Great sets...the last shot I think is my favorite--get you up there as a front is moving in and you can tell everybody you were in Wales.

Beautiful pics, and I'm envious. I have to drive several hours to the eastern part of WV to see terrain like that.

Bob - Thanks! It was a great sunrise. Was surprised to "bump into" a photo workshop group up on the Roan that morning. The surprise crowd made it a bit difficult to find a clear spot for a good shot, but they were having a great time...

CreationBear - The dead tree shot was one of my favorites too. Have tried that a number of times before, but lighting was just right this time.

Susan - So glad you enjoyed the little hike. Hope you'll be able to get up on the Roan yourself sometime soon.

Hans - Thanks so much!

Tony - I am indeed blessed to live so close to so many rich natural places.

Nothing like clear bright weather. We haven't had a lot of these in northern VA lately. Just curious, but were you using a polarizer?

Tom - Sorry to be so slow in answering your question. Have been very busy working with school groups, leading spring hikes, finishing trail maintenance, etc.

Yes I did use a CP on many, but not all of these shots.
