Overdone? Still playing around trying to get that aged look to some old photos. I feel that on the third one, something should have been in focus and it would have come out better. Alas, not enough talent to pull that off.

Not too shabby at all Susan. If you use Photoshop try the Topaz Black & White plugin for a big variety of tones and styles.

very nice treatments here Susan, love that profile photo and I do like the 3rd, reminds me a little of a sketch photo. and the first looks right out of a history book.

Thanks EM. I have photoshop but don't use it for much. It is an old student addition. I mostly use Lightroom and Nik.

Tried that and for some reason they blamed it on the photographer. Go figure.

First image definitely looks "old and worn." 2nd image is my favorite though, both for the excellent expression and the very interesting PP work.

Well since you raised the question: if anything I feel like the first one is overdone. Too many washed out spots that are too large. I rather like the third one - it gives a sense of motion and action. It might work a bit better if it were smaller, as it would hide the out of focus aspect of his face, but that's a minor quibble.

I am with Bob and MSL on the third one... I like it. It has a since of freedom and motion that anything in sharp focus would ruin. The first one has the same faded and spotty look as some of the photo's I have that my grandparents took.

Willing to be wrong on my views of the first one, as I haven't seen too many old photos of this kind.

The first image is authentic. What else can I say? I like the whole series, actually, even the one with the heavy motion blur.

Nice series Susan I like the second one best to first one works for me in every way except the age of the soldiers. I don't think they where that well fed either but you would be working overtime in photo-shop to fix that up.

I just want to take these and clean up the damage. You have really aged them well.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. It is definitely a learning process. Can you tell there is a lot of other horsemen behind the guy in the third shot? You can just make out a face or two.

Thanks EM. Won't be buying Topaz any time soon. I am trying to bribe my husband for the new Pentax TC. It is an uphill battle.

You have to remember that these were southern soldiers. Need I say BBQ?

Easy job to reverse them but then I would end up with some new photos of an old event.
