People camp in the snow... thought you should know
Lens: DA -18-135 Simga 8-16 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Whitney, Ontario, Canada

So here we go... I've posted pictures before of people who hiked into the interior and camped in the bush... but there's also drive in winter camping.

Some people do it the easy way, and bring their own home.

The park rents out a limited number of Yurts, but they are real hard to come by on weekends, usually all booked up months in advance.

Some people use the same tents they use in the summer, I hope they have electric heaters in there...

Groups like the scouts have shelters with their own wood stoves and accommodation for large groups.

There are heated washrooms with showers.

The old airbase hiking trail is a great place to see wildlife.

There's an ice rink where you can play hockey, cause this is Canada eh? ( If the beer is too strong for you, get the heck out of Canada.)

They even provide hockey sticks, just bring your skates..

It's been a long winter and there's lots of snow on the picnic tables at un-used sites.

Ah the great outdoors, making a bit of coffee in the morning.

Thanks for coming on the tour of Mew lake Campground , Algonquin Park.

Rugged types.

Here some make quinzee huts in the snow and camp. Not me though.

Nice pix of those ardent winter campers.

We bought a hot tent and have a wood stove to keep the tent warm inside... but I still can't bring myself to actually do it. We might use it sometime in the fall when it's chilly at night, but not actually frozen.

That was great to view Norm, too bad our motorhome is allergic to the snow.

It sounds like the US Army ruined your life.... at least that would be my take on it. Not that there's anything wrong with time shares...
That US Army thing where the CO comes in and says
"Good news and bad news today men. First the good news, change of underwear.
Now the bad news, you change with him, you change with him..."
That doesn't have to happen in civilian camping, honest.

Appreciate the warning of "Please use indoor showers." No problem with the winter camping but ...
Nice series.

Nice, looks like fun :-) We took our Scouts out for some good winter camping when we lived in Nebraska. It was fun watching them figure out how to put up tents when the ground has turned to permafrost We never really got that much snow, though, just the temps

The doors to the outer showers are locked, just in case you can't read.

You're a braver man than me... taking scouts winter camping... I have slept in a canvas tent when the weather was 25 below Celsius though. When you sleep cold, you have to pee more would be my learning point of the experience. But that's good cause when you're up to pee, you can put more wood on the fire.

Now that's a hardy bunch, we don't camp much anymore and when we do, the ground is soft and warm.
