I miss the snow
Lens: 55-300 WR Camera: K-30 Photo Location: WV
Posted By: TonyTurley, 03-11-2014, 06:38 PM

For the past six days we have been slowly warming from highs in the 20s to highs in the mid-70s. By tomorrow evening, we drop back to the teens with highs in the 20s on Thursday. Up to 3" of snow predicted. These photos were taken after our last encounter with frozen H20. It didn't seem to bother the birds a bit.

When it's 90 degrees out and I'm getting roasted, I miss the snow, we aren't there yet. That's a cute little sparrow, ours haven't returned yet. I think they are avoiding the snow.

Thanks Norm. Our Sparrows have stuck around all winter. I've seen them in the worst of conditions. I saw an Eastern Bluebird yesterday, but it flew away just as I was about to click the shutter.

They breed the birds tough there to combat the cold.

We've had a brutal winter - for us - this year, but our winters are typically mild compared to a lot of places. The birds have still been pretty active all winter. I just wish I was better at getting close enough for some good pics out in the woods. Tess and Norm have it nailed.

I love seeing photos of cardinals. The female in the second one is so cute and "personable." The males very striking. That first shot looks like a really cold bird. Nice series. Thank you for sharing!
