M85mm Takes To The Street
Lens: smc M 85mm f/2.0 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Denver, Colorado, USA ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F2.8

Hello All,
Here's a humble homage to one of my absolute favorite M/F lenses, the M 85mm f/2.0. Seems I don't take it out as much, the FA 100mm f/3.5 Macro is more of a dual-purpose lens, short tele and macro, plus full auto.
But the M85 does some things the newer lenses (anything since 1980!) don't. Note the softer palette of colors and rendering on # 1 and # 5, the old-school pastel hues and warm, beautifully rich saturation. Sorta like film, isn't it?
The tele isolation, B+W skin tones and mostly, the POP! between the in-focus subjects and the wash of background blur, the separation and tonal range, sharp detail without appearing brittle or edgy. Number 2, # 3 and # 4 are my attempts to show this.
Oh, sure, PP can duplicate anything, right? Not so fast, gadget man! Sometimes a certain lens gives you exactly what you want.
OK, it's more work and not quick, to use fully-manual lenses. But it's fun, and in certain scenes, just right.
A couple notes, no aperture on the EXIF, all were taken between f/2.8-4.5. I used a CPL on # 5 (pink house), no other filters, no post-sharpening or radical PP work, just a bit of contrast and clarity. All were in M mode, stop-down metering, hand-held.
C + C welcome,
Ron

I want that house! Maybe not in pink (as my own house anyway), but I love Denver houses and the color in that one! And those are super pics, all of them. I agree on the film-like color quality. Lots of interesting results from using our old lenses. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I Goofed!

Thanks to Albert, Jer, edgar and yucatanPentax, glad you liked the photos.
But, I did goof; I first took photos of the pink house with the 85mm, decided it was too cramped, so changed to the DA 35mm f/2.4AL. And PP' ed both versions, posted the wrong one! Sorry about that, I guess these things happen with age, and I don't mean the lenses!
Anyway, I put the 85mm version up top, to better represent the thread title. It's much tighter and a bit compressed by the telephoto effect. If the colors seem similar, it's likely because I processed them in sucession and probably tweaked one a bit. I do remember that one seemed to be a hotter pink than the other.
Anyway, it was an honest mistake, I'll post the 35mm version here.
Ron
