Great Expectations
Lens: FA 31mm Camera: K-30 Photo Location: Texas ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F1.8

When I was about 2 years old, I was photographed at Olan Mills wearing a dress my oldest cousin had worn in my parent's wedding. Over 30 years have passed, but the dress has been photographed on almost all my cousin's children in the intervening years. When my own daughter turned 2, I got the dress from my aunt and finally had the good window light (and the inclination!) to try to wrangle a rambunctious 2-year-old into standing still long enough to get something. I ended up with the shots I had hoped for, and a few that - given her age - should have been more expected...

What a great story and sequence of pics.
That will be a moment, about 20 years from now when you review those shots with your daughter.

Thanks, everyone! I think my own mother got a little teary-eyed seeing these, because she said they reminded her of me at this age.

These are just wonderful, especially the second one. The last three capture the joy found in a two year old. These are priceless images not only now but in the future. What a marvelous tradition; no wonder your mom teared up.

Thanks Tom and Susan! The older I get, the more interested I am in keeping up the old traditions. Of course, having a willing participant helps

It's the kind of lighting I like for such shots - lends a bit of mystery and nostalgia.

I was thrilled to move to a place that actually had windows (I moved here from Manhattan). I had to move half my bedroom out of the way to take advantage of this one window, but I felt the end result was worth it. There's nothing like good light.

What a wonderful set of photos of a delightful little girl, Keitha. The first two are seriously compelling, the third defines cute and the last two are a total delight - if I've seen better portraits of a child I don't remember them.

Thank you! It is SO hard to get her to stand still these days, so I was pretty thrilled with the results! All it took was a laptop behind me with cartoons on it
