Originally posted by Bob Harris those old live oaks with Spanish Moss are so beautiful, we really enjoyed viewing them on our travels across the South and all the way into the Carolina's. Thanks for the thread of these beautiful trees Jer, the plantations we visited are full of them, quite Southern for sure.
Glad you liked 'em, old buddy.

Originally posted by CreationBear Very cool--I suppose it's possible that y'all could have some live oaks that date back to when Cabeza de Vaca rolled through, though most likely not much escaped the covetous eyes of shipwrights, especially during the age of sail.
Thanks much, CB. I don't know if the guys date back that far, but they've been around a while. We've got a huge grampa oak in our backyard - it's a majestic thing, but it's constant chore managing its various detritus and droppings throughout the year.

Hey - thanks Norbert. Based on what I've seen when I've been in Germany, you guys have lots of beauty. I hope I can get back someday.

Originally posted by tessfully Wow Jer, you are really good at these landscape and tree photos. I bet that first one would look great in black and white. I just love the Druid qualities of these bearded brethren. I can almost hear them whispering. Very Tolkien.
Geez Tess, thanks for the very kind words - I always see a bit old southern gothic when I look at these fellows.
Here's a B&W version:

Originally posted by slowpez Love the old oaks Jer. The drapery of Old Man's Beard makes them so other worldly. Love the first one the best. I think I read that Henry Ford tried using the moss in his car seats but the fleas and other critters were so bad that he had to give up on the idea.
I really appreciate it, Susan. Yeah, Ford tried that for a time as well as seed oil-based crude polymer systems. None worked out, but this presaged the interest in renewable raw materials that we see today.
