I did get out and shoot more bike racing on the ice after I posted last. Again, I used a K300/4 on my K5. This was the season finale....the NY State Ice Racing Championships which took place over two days on Lake George. There were also Quad and Sidecar events. I'm going by memory with the aperture but I'm pretty sure I stayed with f/11 through the day. It helps having a little more DOF and I don't have to fiddle with the focus as much.



Here's some Sidecars. These guys are a little extreme.


And some Quads. The Quads get really crazy, racing close together and nearly blind if you aren't in the front. I hope this shot captures some of that.

Thanks for the comments. My sidecar shots don't do the race justice. It is insane. Ice racing is pretty extreme and the racers think the sidecar guys are a little over the edge. I think they all are. It is one of the most exciting things you can watch on a winter day. The problem is the season is so brief that by the time you figuring out how to shoot it, the season is over. A lot of these guys packed it up after this race and headed down to Daytona for the dirt track. They do have dirt races around here through the summer and now that I'm semi-retired, I hope to be shooting flat track dirt racing this year which will be a whole new set of challenges.
