Aurora Selfie
Lens: Pentax-DA 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AL Camera: Pentax K-m Photo Location: Tromsų, Norway ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F3.5

I took this photo a few weeks ago when we had a good aurora night, unfortunately there was a lot of haze in the air, so light pollution was pretty bad. My night photography is still very much a work in progress, and I'm not particularly happy with this shot, but it is still a cool image, so I figured I'd share it.

That's really cool. Though it's hard to do a selfie with that long a shutter speed!

It was worth it just to watch nature's magic light show.

Never tire of seeing the aurora. Wish I could see it in real life. TFS.

Your night photography might be in progress but you managed a far better shot of the northern light then me when I was in Tromsų last year. Wonderful to see it curl over the mountain and you!

Thanks! I got super lucky that night, it's not often we have clear weather and good aurora, and there was powder to be skied on the way down to boot!

Good job. I haven't seen one in a while around here. The past few times they were visible to our area, we were socked in with clouds. I have never got a picture of one.

The fact that you moved a little adds to the spookyness of the picture...

I'd love to see that in real, what is the best time off the year to see the aurora in Norway?

Have fun,
Igor

Very nicely done, your foreground blurryness just adds to the spookyness as just mentioned. Gives the whole shot an unearthly feel.

Igor: it's a bit of a toss up with aurora-- the best chance you'll get is when it's dark the whole night, so september to late april, but you need a clear night and solar activity, which certainly doesn't occur as often as I'd like. If you're going to northern Norway, though, I'd recommend coming around/during polar night (november 21-january 21 in Tromsų), it's an interesting experience, and we get a lot of pretty light!

Hi Zoe, thanks for the advice. I'll check how can get to Tromso and how much that would cost.
May the aurora be with you...
