A Rare shot
Posted By: Kerrowdown, 03-30-2014, 04:55 AM

This could be a collectors image soon, if certain people get their way in a particular vote later this year, that flag wont be flown there again.

Man - I love this composition - works perfectly with the patina of the structure.

What's your guess on the outcome of the referendum?

Time to retrofit Hadrian's wall, I guess. Reinstate the Stuarts? Naw, they're all deceased.

That would certainly reduce Scottish unemployment numbers.

Nae if we get "right of return" like the Israelis. That would be a prodigious homecoming--as the saying went in the 18th century, "In every corner of the world you will find a rat, a Scot, and a Newcastle grindstone."

Ha, much more "ned" than "read," I'm afraid...

At any rate, I hope everything works out for the best, though it might be typical Scots luck to finally prise the North Sea oil fields away from Perfidious Albion just as fracking/tarsand extraction technologies come on-line the world over. It might be like the run-up to the Act of Union in the first place (when every Scot with two groats to rub together was about to take a haircut over the failed Darien colony)--those sassenachs might not look too bad in a few years time.

But then you'd need settlements on both sides of the Tweed and the protection of one of the Great Powers. I understand that the Rus should be free in a month or two and they have been practicing. Probably the only Super Power that could keep pace with a Scott in libations as well.

Definitely an apt candidate, now that Peter the Great is back in fashion: you couldn't swing a dead cat in a Russian officers' mess without hitting a Caledonian. (Of course, the same could be said of just about any European army of the day, not excluding the Turks.)

Wow, what a great thread this has turned into, all with a hint of history, geography, politics, drinking, armies and dead animals.

Nice shot! I'm thinking lowlands for the crown and highlands for freedom! Not that a midwestern boy knows much about Scotland history. I do know the Proclaimers would love to see independance!! "Jean oh Jean, you let me get lucky with you!" My favorite song!
