Some Birds of the Murray Valley Region
Lens: DA55-300 Camera: K30
Posted By: Cee Cee, 03-30-2014, 06:58 PM

Birds I encountered on a recent trip to the area, not all classic birding shots some just for the record

Kookaburras, they were quite tame and would often perch on the balconey rail of our cabin, looking for a hand out no doubt

this one flew down from the trees, showed off it's catch to everyone for a minute then flew back up into the trees -" who's a clever Kooka then "...

White Faced Heron

Darter .... also know as "Snake Bird", "Diver", "Shag"

Eastern Rosella

Yellow Rosella.... also know as "Murrumbidgee Lowry" or "Murray Smoker", this bird is only found in the Murray Valley region

Blue Faced Honey Eater

Galahs

Some Water Birds - not sure what these are named, feel free to jump in...

Long Billed Corellas

Yellow Crested Cockatoo ... not happy about me getting too close and letting me know it!

cheers & thanks for looking

Your "water birds" are the wood duck or maned goose (male at the back). All very nice shots. I particularly like the blue faced honeyeater..

+1 on the Honeyeater shot. All good shots, but that Honeyeater's a good 'un.

thank you so much for your comments, and a great looking bird to view in person, it spent about 4 or 5 minutes looking under all the bark for spiders & grubs -fine dining for a Blue Faced honey eater I would suspect, this shot was taken while I was seated on the balcony of a winery restaurant, enjoying a fine glass of red and enjoying some fine dining myself, that's the way all birding should be
cheers

Terrific stuff, Cee Cee. I don't know much about birds, but I do know we don't see characters like these flying around here!

I love the birds! Terrific photos. Makes my cardinals and goldfinches seem quite ordinary in comparison.
