Tonight's lunar eclipse is almost upon us! Once the time comes (3:07-4:24am EST), let's see those moon photos - share them in this thread I will be taking the F* 250-600mm for a spin tonight.

By the time the moon rose over the Adelaide Hills it was past totality and thus no blood was to be seen.

K-5 & DA*200 1/1250 @ f/4.5, ISO 100

From my garden in Stirling, South Australia. Both in monochrome because the bloodiness was basically over before the moon rose above the trees.
The first image is taken with the DA*300 on the 1.4 rear converter on the Q7
The second is the same combination on the Q.
Both have been cropped to give the same magnification. Obviously the Q needed less than the Q7. I also took some with the same combination on the K-3, but a 100% crop gave less magnification with much less detail, although that could at least be partially due to the lower light (earlier on so the eclipse was more evident) or possibly poorer focus.

This basically confirms for me that I will be keeping my Q as an extreme "teleconverter" for my K mount glass, and my Q7 as the native host for my Q mount lenses.

My 1st shot with the K-5 tonight was one where I realized during the exposure that I had the settings all wrong so I moved the camera to change them. It came out rather well IMO

The shoot was with the great help of the wife as my right arm is still out of action and the DA* 300 and TC are a bit hard to handle left handed. The air was dirty so not super sharp.

I suppose you could call this "red". This was a slightly earlier shot where the moon looked like a crescent only on the "wrong" side of the sky.

This was from my D800e and 70-200 VRII but I wasn't impressed due to Amp Glow and noise so I grabbed my K-5 for the other shots.

after relocating a couple of times to evade the incoming cloud layer, I ended up south of Sacramento at this decommissioned nuclear station. This is a bit of a composite. I did shoot everything, just not necessarily at the same time.

A test of patience - overcast skies continued from about 7:30pm until well into the eclipse... Almost gave up but patience was rewarded - around 1:30am PST the clouds started to lift.
Here are my 3 best shots - Pentax K5, 500mm F4.5 lens.

Really bummed that it was so overcast here. I even fired up my LightTrac app for the first time (well, the first time with actual intention of using it instead of "hey, isn't this cool") to see exactly which direction to set up the camera in advance -- I could have set up the tripod in my attic and gotten a nice wide shot of the moon over some old Victorian homes, and then switched to a tele (and maybe my wife's Q) try and catch it up close.

Maybe I'll try it with a non-full, non-eclipse moon just to make sure I know what I'm doing when the next one rolls around.

I had light cloud cover that completely obscured the moon at times but I tried my best. Pentax K10D. Lenses used Celestron C-90 f/11 1000mm (cat) and a Lester Dine (Kiron) 105mm f/2.8. The Celestron isn't the sharpest lens in the world. I had to move my camera to the other side of the building and unfortunately changed the focus while doing so. The moon was so dim at that time I just guessed at the focus. Refconverter M was a big help though.





You can see the star Spica in the last photo (105mm).

Hey, martin, What Fstop & shutter speed & ISO did you use for most or all of these? I used my SMC Pentax M 80-200 lens also on my K-50, and you can check on this thread, the results I got with mine. Didn't quite turn out like yours.
