Tonight's lunar eclipse is almost upon us! Once the time comes (3:07-4:24am EST), let's see those moon photos - share them in this thread I will be taking the F* 250-600mm for a spin tonight.

Here's a guide we've put together on shooting the moon. It also contains specifics about this particular eclipse:

Here's an example of what we might see tonight as the moon passes through Earth's shadow:

wow these are some amazing shots! this was my first try at taking pictures of a lunar eclipse and I unfortunately didn't read the great write-up about it here beforehand. So I just fiddled with the camera for a few minutes after the clouds parted. Now I know more for next time, although a longer lens would serve me well also.

Great shots! Time to start saving for a big lens!!!

Here's what I was able to do with my K-30 and FA50mm for the satr shots and a Q with Fotodiox adaptor and M200 f4.

This one has the Moon, Mars in the uper right and the star Spika just to the right of the moon.
So many moons so few astronauts.

BTW it's Spica, not Spika.

Well, I was quite pleased with my results, but after looking at the one's on this page, I'm just discouraged. Oh well, here's my pic anyway.

Don't be discouraged. Mine look a lot like yours but it was a learning experience. It was fun to play with the settings and see what I could get. Next time I'll do better, maybe have a new lens to play with by then.

I'm a bit late to the party but this is what I got while waiting on the top of a hill out in the Australian countryside:

Pentax 645D with the Pentax-A* 645 600mm f/5.6 ED [IF] with 2X rear converter (with the 645D crop works out to 936mm f/12.2)

Unfortunately, I encountered some camera stability issues and this was the only shot that really turned out - In retrospect I should have brought out my heavy wood Berlebach tripod, a 67 to 645 adapter and used the Pentax-M* 67 800mm f/6.7 ED [IF] lens - which would have given me a brighter viewfinder, manually focusing a 936mm f/12 lens isn't easy even with a bright viewfinder like the 645D has (the infinity mark was so far off it was a joke). I will be upgrading to the new 645Z with its live view capabilities should make tasks like this easier, as well as having better High ISO performance. My original plan was to stack multiple images to counter atmospheric distortion and reduce image noise. But the set up wasn't quite stable enough to handle multiple shutter firings without vibrations killing sharpness.

And I'll raise you a front of ocean location with wind and fine misty spray, some cloud cover a K5 with 2x TC on 18-135 @135 (270mm equiv) with manually focusing on a short throw.

GREAT and AMAZING shot Digitalis. Wonderful image, congratulations.

Great image Digitalis. Glad you got the one image that trumped everything in detail. Can't wait to see the 645Z images! I wish I had those lenses and cash.

Equipment mainly used:

- K01

- Super Multi Coated Takumar 400mm f5.6(mostly at >F8), ISO 400 to 800, exposure bias varying from -3 to 0 and time around 1 sec and below

- DA 15mm

- SMC DA55-300 took surprisingly great images. I almost bought a Sigma 50-500 f4.5 but after seeing how my DA55-300 turned out, I'm going to aim for the 60-250 or 300* w/ HD rear teleconverter. (Adam, I did read the review for HD55-300 which I loved).

- K-01 720nm infrared conversion which I don't think got anything interesting and have yet to take a look

"Beautiful night. Woke up 10 minutes before the scheduled start of eclipse so I just went to nearby spots that I thought would have some darkness. There were clouds and mists around 11 PST in San Diego and it didn't look good. I moved locations from beach to bay. Unfortunately, my early shots with the 400mm were unuseable because I thought it was a piece of old junk. Turns out my polarizer was on =P and of course I didn't turn the ring correctly making things dark and unfocused. This was during the opening window of about 30 minutes before clouds rolled in and I thought the shoot was going to be a bust. I thought I was done but I luckily hung around for the rest of quite interesting show. The clouds cleared and although the mists remained(wish I drove earlier to an easterly deserted location), the eclipse had highlights during the going away phase after it turned rose colored and the eclipse showed glowingly bright. The DA 15 was the best lens to show the overall picture as my other lenses would glare too much. (If anyone knows how to get that eclipse light arc in detail without glare, please... I'd love to know.)"

Seriously Digitalis?! Make us all look bad by using an ultra long expensive lens, on an ultra high resolution expensive body! Sheesh!

All sarcarsm aside, that image is nothing short of stunning. Seriously probably the best single shot of the moon during the eclipse (colored red) Ive seen yet. Kudos!

I was outside using a shoe on a table as a tripod since I don't have one at the minute haha. I tossed my pictures up on my facebook where people who were amazed with cell phone pictures were amazed by mine... In the Pentaxforums context, I feel like my pictures are cell phone quality and you guys might as well be the Hubble Space Telescope

Shot with a K-01 and a Pentax M 135mm and the wide shot is with a Tamron 17-50 f2.8
