Trees on the rocks
Camera: K5 Photo Location: Harz Mountain - Germany
Posted By: volley, 04-20-2014, 10:04 AM

A couple of days ago I was hiking again along a smal river in my favourite mountain area, about one hour drive from my house.
This is a beautiful area with a lot of rocks ...
In these challenging conditions, it seems that the trees are stronger than the rocks - they seem to make use of every chance to find a place to grow.
I am definately not the person to describe how impressive this is (no matter if I try in my native language or in english). But in 1824 the German author Heinrich Heine wrote a wonderful text about his travels along exactly the same trail I took.

Great images Norbert, I bet you enjoy yourself getting away from work and taking walks like this.

Great set--is that near the Brocken? FWIW, the fourth is my favorite composition: I'd love to see a monochrome version, if only to learn how you pulled it off...the Thunderhead sandstone of my mountains is so close tonally to tree bark that I've not yet gotten a good B/W image.

Thanks for your comment Norm. Visiting your "back yard" is something I need to do after retirement. Would you suggest a trip in summer or in winter

Yes, this trail is leading to the Brocken. Do you know this area? As long as Germany was divided it was impossible for me to go there although it was so near.
I'll try to post some B&W later. Take care!

Winter is very cold and I find the cold is very hard on us old dudes. Spring is bug season. August is the easiest time to visit, warm, good swimming in some of the cleanest water in the world, but we always have a few Europeans who come in late September for the fall colours, it's harder camping then, but there are lots of places to stay.... not in the park, but next to it, from where the park is easily accessible with a motor vehicle.

I love the way the trees embrace the rocks they grow upon. As if the trees are clinging during a storm. Great shots!
