Hummingbirds and Lizards

Shot these this morning. My first hummingbird. I really need a bigma, teleconverters, or both. Those little hummers are skittish.

Great shots! I really love that first lizard shot! Wonderful look and the sharpness is all there.

Hummingbirds are tough and I can't wait to shoot them again this summer.

Nice shots! I specially like the lizzard.

Did it try to sell you insurance?

Humming birds are tough but you've got long enough glass to do the job. From my limited experience they will let you get fairly close if they are focused on food. If you can set the camera up near the feeder with a flash you can freeze the wing movment quite nicely. Just dial the flash down so it doesn't look too much like a 'flash shot' works fairly well in daytime.

Thanks for the comments and tips. The hummingbird was taken in the early morning. The sun hadn't even peeked over the houses across the street. One of the drawbacks I've discovered with the K200, one I hoep can be fixed with a firmware update if it ever comes out, is that images get very noisy at ISO 800 and up. You can see the amount of noise in these shots that were at ISO 400. Yes it was the Tammy.

Since the K200D uses the same chip as the K10D (although the processor is different I think), you may not find a firmware 'fix' for ISO800 + noise. but there is a way to work around this. Turn the EV up to +1/3 or 1/2. A slightly overexposed shot can be easily adjusted in software but will come out much much cleaner. I've gotten very good ISO 1600 images out of the K10D by doing this. Sure they aren't going to be the same as ISO 100 but still very good.
