A journey to Triangle Island
Lens: HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR Camera: pentax K5 Photo Location: Scott Islands, BC, Canada ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/2000s Aperture: F8

Last Friday I got the chance to visit Triangle Island, which is the most distant of the Scott Islands group, off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. An amazing place and a great test for my new HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR lens. All in all, I am very happy with the way the lens performed, even if it did a little focus hunting at times. There were people on board the boat with some massive lenses, like a Canon 600mm f/4 lens and I just shook my head. Don't get me wrong, these are great peices of kit, but even OS doesn't compensate for a boat rolling around in a 3-5 meter swell. The trip was amazing and I hope you like some of the shots.

Darryl

Yes the weather co-operated. For the week before it had been Gale force winds and 5-7m swells. We managed a brief 12 hour window when the sea were relatively "calm." Going out the Queen Charlotte Strait was like a Mill pond, almost glassy smooth. Then when we rounded Cape Scott the swell grew a bit, but not more than a couple of meters. The seas out at Triangle were much sloppier. The tide changed and the currents were a problem. But we managed a circumnavigation of the island, so it was a good trip!
