First hummingbird of 2014
Lens: DA*300 Camera: Pentax K-5IIs Photo Location: My backyard ISO: 1000 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F5.6

Spring is never officially here for me…until I see the first hummingbird

This is an adult female Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the only species that we see in Ohio on a regular basis. The plant, which is still in it's container from the nursery, is Cuphea 'David Verity'.

I bet you had to wait a while to get a shot like that! It's good!

Time for me to buy another hummingbird feeder. Mine fell apart from the sun.

Love the pictures!

What a great shot! Sharp as a tack, with just enough wing blur to show the movement. And some great lines in this photo too!

I guess I need to get my feeders out. It has been chilly enough around here that I thought it would be another week or two before they arrived.

Great shot, by the way Bud!

Everything seems to be running a little behind schedule this year…here's hoping that they stick to the schedule in your area!

Thanks, and I highly recommend a few good nectar plants, too

Fantastic shot, the sharp focus on the bird and the flower but the blur on the wings just emphasises the effect. Grace and effort on the part of the subject and a wonderful record of it.
